I'm glad they re-released it. Can't wait for my son to see this.

When I was in Jr. High, I bought the soundtrack and was so embarrassed by do so. An older kid stopped me and asked what I had purchased, probably thinking Michael Jackson or some whatnot and I showed him the Soundtrack. He had response. What I meant was that it never really veers into out and out satire or self-acknowledgment like so many remakes do. The script and performances are comedic, but the characters they portray are serious about what they do -- even if they have wings or a metal face!

Make no mistake -- I really enjoy this movie, I just think it's Adam Rosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11968051066147134504noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15687635.post-60236011587374300732007-08-14T22:24:00.000-06:002007-08-14T22:24:00.000-06:00This is not FLASH's R1 debut. I'm not sure why you believe that the movie takes itself so seriously, as Lorenzo Semple, Jr. has clearly written a comedy, just as his 1966 screenplay for BATMAN was a comedy. It's also obvious that Max von Sydow, Marty McKeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02084642122976337263noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15687635.post-16994940390040156492007-08-14T19:45:00.000-06:002007-08-14T19:45:00.000-06:00I concur with Joseph B. and Damian here. It is cheesy but makes absolutely no apologies for it, and by the time we get to Planet Mongo, that spirit is infectuous.

Neither Sam Jones or Melody Anderson went on to win an Oscar obviously, but somehow they're both perfect for this material.

Flash Gordon is fun, whereas something like Masters of the Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15687635.post-77986185477978294382007-08-13T20:45:00.000-06:002007-08-13T20:45:00.000-06:00Damian, if you're an Alex Ross fan you should try ...Damian, if you're an Alex Ross fan you should try and pick up Flash Gordon at BestBuy. Yes, I was watching it with very different eyes now (it was clear to me now how "bad" the movie was and I had forgotten that Timothy Dalton and Topol were in it) but that didn't Damian Arlynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07937513879456460221noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15687635.post-3949685296176838112007-08-12T22:28:00.000-06:002007-08-12T22:28:00.000-06:00Camp or not, I LOVE this movie. Not only was Ornella Muti my first on-screen crush (wow was she sensual in the seduction scene with Ming!) but the scene where Gordon is forced to stick his hand in those little stones and hope tiny creatures don't spit on it and kill him terrified me. Seriously. To this day, I don't reach under a bed or inside something Joe Bakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10160822944514723178noreply@blogger.com
